Volunteer With Beyond Leather

Beyond Leather is made possible by the energy, dedication, and generosity of volunteers who help create a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for the entire community.

If you enjoy supporting events, meeting people, and helping things run smoothly behind the scenes, volunteering can be a rewarding way to participate.

Volunteer staff receive:

Complimentary event registration
A chance to contribute to the community and make the event successful
Opportunities to meet presenters, staff, and attendees

Volunteers typically commit approximately 12 hours of service during the event weekend.

Volunteer Teams

There are several volunteer teams that help support the event.

Security/Dungeon Monitor(s):

Helps maintain safety, enforce rules, and monitor entry points to ensure everyone present is an event patron by verifying badges and entry points. May assist with ticket taking for theaters and other paid events.

Dungeon Monitor roles require prior experience due to the responsibility of maintaining safety in active play spaces.

Registration:

Welcomes attendees, assists with check-in, distributes run bags, checks ID to issue badges, delivers pre-purchased items, verifies photo consent and lanyard color, and ensures VIP wristbands are properly issued.

Facilities/SetUp team:

Receives equipment and furniture from Logistics for event setup. Responsible for moving equipment, preparing classrooms, dungeon spaces, and theaters. This team assists with both setup and breakdown of event areas.

Logistics:

Provides transportation and delivery of essential equipment and furniture to set up playspaces, classrooms, and AV support. This team arrives early to load up, makes the delivery to Facilities team, gets to enjoy the conference uninterrupted, and stays on Sunday to return equipment and furniture to storage until next year.

Photo/Video:

Captures moments from the event and helps document activities while respecting privacy policies.

Prior experience and a portfolio is required. Photo volunteers MAY NOT charge for photos. If you would like to be a vendor, please fill out a vendor form and not a volunteer form.

Bootblack Team:

Bootblacks are the heart of leather culture. We trust you with our history and our presentation of our leather journey. Bootblacks must have prior experience and references, title holders will receive preference. Novice Bootlacks may volunteer if working under the direct supervision of a more experienced Bootblack. Tips belong to the Bootblack, but volunteers MAY NOT charge for services. If you would like to be a vendor, please fill out a vendor application and not a volunteer form.
