"International Pony Play Championships"
Click here for IPPC Entrance Application and Qualifications!
The inaugural year for the International Pony Play Championships held at Beyond Leather in 2011 was exceptionally exciting and extremely successful with Foxy and Sherifox ending the contest as the Grand Champion winners. Beyond Leather's 5th anniversary celebration had the IPPC2 with amazing success and the Grand Champion winners are Master Oakman and his pony diamond! At IPPC3 we would like to welcome the International Pony Play Championship title winners PonySweetcheeks and dee.
We're sure some of you are wondering why Beyond Leather would want to bring in the ponies. First, to be true to our name, Beyond Leather, we thought that the ponies would be a perfect expression of our complete diversity and similarities at the same time. Second, our hotel is able to accommodate the needs of the pony competition without interfering with the rest of our event. We welcome this addition and hope that many of you will embrace it with us and enjoy the fun it is meant to bring to our event!
International Pony Play Championships
Rules and Information
On Saturday May 3, 2014 on a carpeted area of approx 50 feet by 30 feet, as a contestant pair, you will compete with two performances. One will be a 3min equitation performance in hand, without music, using a mandatory path, jump and gait changes provided weeks before BL6 so you can practice and feel confident and prepared. The second will be a Free style performance no longer than 4 min to demonstrate pony spirit by handling and gait changes to your musical selection. The Freestyle performance may be with a cart, mounted or in hand. There is space around the arena for observation by non participants.
Each pony will be judged for spirit, tack and appointments, whinny, conformation, show performance and creativity. Each handler will be judged for handling ability, showmanship and appointments, spirit and overall performance. If you are attending Beyond Leather and would like to be part of the pony parade, please contact us at
for all information.
Each handler/pony pair will have a 15 minute interview with the judge’s panel to answer randomly selected questions concerning various aspects of your personal history with ponyplay involvement. The ability to present ponyplay to the general public as the International Ponyplay Ambassador Grand Champion is the focus of this Q&A session. Ponies will not be in "Pony space" and able to verbally communicate.
Ribbon awards will be given for Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, Tack and appointments, Best Conformation, Best Whinny, Sportsmanship and Horsemanship.
The Grand Champion Handler and Pony will receive complimentary admission to BL8 for their step down performance at IPPC. The Grand Champions can not participate in the contest during their step down year but may do so in subsequent years. They may be asked to judge or present a workshop during their step down year or subsequent years.
Each handler and pony team entering into the competition has a registration application fee of $100 per pair. This is their only entrance fee into Beyond Leather for the contest weekend.
